11:03 AM – Outage Detected
Our monitoring systems detected all Wellington based Fibre connections disconnected from our BNG. Issue was raised to our upstream provider that we longer had any Layer 2 connectivity. Contact was made with Chorus faults team for investigation.
11:18 AM – Outage Identified
We received reports of widespread connectivity issues affecting Chorus UFB services terminating on the Chorus Wellington handover. Services impacted included broadband connections across Wellington, Kapiti, Hutt Valley, Palmerston North, and Napier.
11:35 AM – Investigation Underway
Chorus acknowledged the fault and began working to identify its source. Around 90% of affected UFB connections were offline. The issue was confirmed to be affecting multiple ISPs nationwide.
11:46 AM – National Impact Confirmed
Media reports indicated service disruptions at major ISPs including Spark, One NZ, Skinny, 2Degrees, Voyager, and many more. Chorus continued repair efforts with no ETA provided.
12:15 PM – Services Restoring
We began seeing customer connections come back online. Users still experiencing issues were advised to restart their routers. A spokesperson for Chorus advised that a core Ethernet router suffered an outage.
